I was there with my wife of 8 months- her first game. the 24,000 sounded like 50K. The 'ole
stadium had the lower and upper deck overhanging, so crowds sounded louder than they do
in our new park in Cleveland

There must be another big trade on the near horizon, 'cus I can't see the point in spending all these extra bucks for a 7th SP for 1 year in order to almost get competitive. I don't think Jackson by himself takes this team a quantum step forward, but it does free up a SP to include in a package for a building-block type guy to get on base from the top of the order for years to come. Without that tablesetter, the NATS are still going to have a lot of problems scoring runs and aren't much more than an 85-win team this year; nor have they improved their chances for future years. Glass half empty maybe, but true.

While I'd agree the farm system is improved, I'd be lying if I said it's been rebuilt. We're still thin on position prospects and there are gaps, particularly at SS and RHSPs.

Any chance I can get added to the blogroll?

Hello..I was at this game and it remains one of the most jotous experiences of my life. I just want to correct the record though. The call you are referring to was not made by Ken Coleman. It was made by Ned Martin on the radio and it went like this, "Petrocelli's back he's got it, the Red Sox win, there's pandemonium on the field, listen"....The TV call was made by Mel Parnell....And, sad to say, it was not very good.....Great Stuff...

It could be probably best for the Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn homered, and Jason to lead the nationals at Miami. i think it should not be affected by the rain like in Australia there are roofs on the Grounds to be safe from the rain or something like that.

I wouldn't say he was "lights-out". He was effective, and I'll surely take it, but he's certainly had better outings this season. 6.1 innings is OK, but I'd really have preferred 7. Again, I'm not saying he did a bad job - it was pretty good, but I'll save "lights out" for "scattered 6 hits over 7 innings and 0 or 1 runs."

Look what happened to SD when they made the move this year to trade youth for "veterans" they are dieing and they, unlike the Nats have no farm prospects to bring up. They are now at the point of writing off the season and trying the youngsters just to see if they can develop - they have the what to we have to loose attitude. Let's keep Bernadina and the youth movement -it's working ; let it mellow, jell and develop this year.

Well, just because the rumors are there doesn't mean that they're true. You're right - Bernadina brings pretty good (though in actuality, not great) defense, and pretty OK hitting. However, having him in CF and Nix in LF hurts your overall defense a bit. However, I surely wouldn't trade him for someone older unless that guy's a clear across-the-board upgrade and still has 3-5 years of quality left, and I just don't see that in Bourn. (or Upton, for that matter.)

I also saw that segment w/Lasorda and found it pretty annoying. Clearly, Lasorda didn't have a clue and therefore got it backwards. A lot of dedicated fans spend a lot of money on seats in section 1-2-9 and elsewhere, I think mostly because they love baseball and despite a lot of signals by the Nationals organization that fans and customers are not valued very much.
